Education
I graduated from Ohio University with my Bachelor's Degree in 1971. Graduate school began a year later, first attending Xavier University. Transferring to Marshall University for one year, I returned to my favorite university and completed my Master's Degree in 1976. After working many years, I returned to Ohio University and completed my Ph.D. in 1989. My Psychologist license was granted in 1990.
Over the years I have taught at Ohio University at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Community Mental Health Practice
Psychologists in small communities typically work at several locations. Over the years I have been a Consulting Psychologist with the regional mental health centers and other community-based mental health programs. I would often provide case consultation, psychological evaluations, therapy, and training services.
Expert Witness Testimony
Court and Law Enforcement Services
Beginning in the early 1990's I was hired by the Social Security Administration to provide expert witness testimony to cases heard before the Office of Adjudication and Review, formerly known as the Office of Hearings and Appeals. This is one type of consultation in the legal arena I have provided over the years. In private practice, I have provided employment screening for law enforcement applicants as well as high-security guard positions. I currently provide mental health services to local prisons through their Employee Assistance Program.
I don't have a "couch" by the way.
Private Practice
Private Practice has been a part of my professional career since 1976. First in group practice, I began a solo practice in 1996.
My activities include individual therapy, employee assistance services, psychological evaluation, and professional consultation. I see children and adults and specialize in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, emotional trauma, and relationship issues.
Ohio River Valley Juvenile Correctional Facility
Correctional Psychology
What began as a consulting position with a local juvenile correctional facility grew into a position as their Psychology & Mental Health Services Supervisor from 2001 to 2009. In this position, I supervised all mental health services for this maximum-security , 330-bed juvenile correctional facility.
Internet Psychology
My professional website has been on the Internet since the late 1990's. Since that time, I have responded to reader email as time allowed. I became a formal "Internet Psychologist" in May 2007. At that time I became a Consulting Psychologist with Counselling Resource in Great Britain. The owner of this popular mental health website, Greg Mulhauser, developed an "Ask the Psychologist" blog and I became the Clinical Psychologist. Questions on the blog range from issues with relationships to rather complex clinical if not philosophical concerns.
